Last year in December, as head of the design department at one of the top web portals in the country, I took part in a stormy professional dispute, during which I was right and my interlocutor was CEO of the company. Due to our positions being permanently incompatible I found cooperation impossible and filed my resignation. Two hours later I was released from all my duties and six years into the career I ceased being an employee of one of the top web portals in the country. I was pissed and I was angry. I’d been putting a lot of energy into that job. It cost me a lot of health. I cared. I wanted to create good, pretty and useful websites. I wanted users - people - to be able to use internet services as conveniently as possible. I’d designed and developed a new production process, changing a number of other processes in a way to reach the highest quality. I’d managed to put it to use. I’d brought a team of fabulous experts together and convinced them to make The Change. We all had put great efforts to make it happen, and we had succeeded. The assumptions had been implemented properly and we had produced the most thought out and refined online service in the company’s history. But what had turned out later was that we all had been ripped off; the promises had been unfulfilled. I was pissed and I was angry. However, after a couple of days I realized that in the new circumstances I could do things which I previously could not. For instance, ride a bicycle to the sea. So I began riding a bicycle to the shore, looking at clouds, watching ships entering the port and breathing deeply. And I stopped being pissed and angry since I became aware that the mistake was mine, and that I’d been making it over and over persistently for six years. I had been trying to give meaning to something that never had sense to begin with.If you’re creating websites that make profit out of advertising, your design efforts do not serve making people’s lives better. They serve displaying best targeted ads, as many as possible, aimed to make people crave possessing things that will not make them better nor happier. That is exactly what you’re working on, and if Satan exists, you’re working for him. Each day you’re making the world a tiny bit worse and you’re doing it in the name of shareholders’ gain and primitive ambitions belonging to people whom you must obey. And I understood the poet was right. One sunny day, down came an angel with a horn: I ditched my damn job and reverted to freedom. And since I’d spent six years doing things devoid of sense - I decided to spend as long as possible only doing things which made sense to me. Or things that made no sense at all, but I wanted to do them. And that is how I started to photograph the sea.It made no sense, but I wanted to do it. And I wanted to do it, because I could. There’s several dozen photos by now. Each one has been taken around noon, each from the same spot, each in the same way. Each is the same and each is different. I’ve made a page out of them, where they just blend together, one into another, at random - so that whoever wants could look at the sea, at any time and place, even at work, and remind oneself that everything changes continuously and that there are truest infinities within a hand’s reach, only out of sight through a conference room window or from a desk somewhere in the burning cadaverous light of a hall full of human resources. If you have ever thought that maybe you should leave your job because you’re trying to give meaning to something that has none - then you should leave it. Do it today, tomorrow never comes.

  8. Hej Abduzeedo-Team,

I just want to submit my latest typeface “Conto” I released some days ago.
If you like to blog or post ist via your channel, I will be very happy. (Look at the download links below)

Info text:
Conto is a clear and reduced sans serif typeface in eight weights (upright, italic). It is mainly designed for corporate identity along with the editorial design and advertising. A special set of ligatures make the fonts very useful for logo type and lettering.
The elegant Thin and the strong Black weights are working well in display typography, while the Regular, Medium and Bold weights are meant to stay well in text and tables.

Main characteristic are the minimalistic and reduced lowercase shapes (a/b/d/g/m/n/p/q/r/u). Another specific feature is the rising contrast. Whereas you can not find any contrast in the Thin weight, you will find more and more contrast while climbing up to Black.

Conto’s special ligatures are made for logo-types and lettering. Therefore you find Discretionary Ligatures like ‘r_a,’ ‘e_i,’ ‘s_t_u’ or ‘r_i’ and many more!!! Try the OT-feature ss01. Maybe there is something nice for your next logo.

Conto contains around 850 glyphs and supports all latin-script based languages. It also includes small-caps and all kind of figures you need for serious typography. Of course you have case and small-cap sensitive punctuation and fractions up to 1/9 (oneninth).
